The most common workplace injuries

by Henry Hollinsworth

We can all name a few types of commonplace accidents in the workplace. There are some which aren't that serious. There are other types, however, which can cause a mild to severe injury. Having a knowledge of the risks involved, it is vital that every worker exercise a certain amount of caution and take the necessary steps to minimise incidents in the workplace. Let us take a look at a few of the accidents to be cautious of.

Tripping, slipping, and falling. If a worker has tripped, slipped, and fallen over, it is typically due to the floor being unclean, wet, or slippery. Or it could be a floor with an engine leak. There are other times when a worker has stepped on an unexpected object on the floor and, in this instance, he is likely to take a fall.

Accidents from lifting objects. A company which requires its workers to carry objects should really make sure that the workers knows how to lift properly. Some workers do so knowing full well that they are not lifting the object correctly and that that lack of knowledge increases the odds of an injury occurring. The correct technique includes having the back straight, even more important with heavier objects. Bending the knees when about to lift is also good technique.

Falls. This type of accident usually takes place when the worker is stood on the top step of a ladder. There are times when the worker has taken a fall but through no fault of his own. Typically, it is down to the equipment malfunctioning. Being aware of this, companies should always ensure to check, maintain, and ascertain that their equipment is always in working order. It isn't uncommon for falls to result in injuries of a serous nature. Some have even died.

Being hit by an object. Sometimes, a worker will be hit by something, which has typically fallen from above. This normally occurs in a warehouse or another environment which contains tools as well as other sharp and hard materials.
